The people behind it, the philosophy that drives it and the story that led us here
Business has changed. Not simply because of technology. But because customer expectations have changed.
People expect businesses to respond faster than ever before. Not because they're impatient. Because responsiveness communicates that you care. It tells people they've been heard. It says, "You're important to us." It builds trust. And trust builds great businesses.
We ARE in The Response Economy, where speed to serve has become the new currency.
The businesses that thrive won't necessarily be the ones with the biggest teams or the biggest budgets. They'll be the ones that make it easier for customers to do business with them.
The challenge is that your people are already carrying more than ever. Whether you're a business owner, practitioner, administrator, receptionist, trainer, therapist or manager… your team can only be in one place at one time.
They can only answer one phone call while helping one customer. They can only teach one class. They can only treat one patient. They can only work so many hours in a day.
But customer expectations don't stop. The phone still rings after you've gone home. Website enquiries continue to arrive 24 hours a day. Booking requests keep coming in. And your customers still expect a response.
We don't believe Australian businesses should have to carry more pressure just to stay competitive.
That's why we created The Knowing Co. We help busy businesses respond to growing customer demands without adding more pressure. Using practical AI-powered systems, we help businesses stay responsive, capture more opportunities, improve customer service and reduce repetitive work.
So you and your team can focus on what people do best. Helping people.
Founder & Visionary Director
Hi, I'm Jen and I'm based in Melbourne. I've been in business since 1994. Over the past three decades I've seen the arrival of the internet, mobile phones, social media and now artificial intelligence. Every major technology shift changed the way businesses operate. Some businesses adapted and thrived. Others were slower to adapt and found themselves playing catch-up. What I know for sure is this: Business owners don't mind hard work. What we do mind is feeling like we're working harder and harder for less and less return. That's why I created The Knowing Co.
Director, Client Management
Paul brings extensive experience in client relationship management and sales leadership to The Knowing Co. As former Sales Manager for Fletcher Jones Australia, Client Relationship Manager at Web Business Academy and Director of Sales at Meeting Innovation, Paul has spent his career understanding what businesses and their clients truly need — and how to bridge that gap. A talented copywriter in his own right, Paul brings both strategic thinking and creative clarity to everything he does. At The Knowing Co, Paul oversees client management and ensures every business we work with gets the attention, support and results they deserve.
Over the past six years, Paul and I have done a lot of wondering (some would call it navel-gazing even — haha).
I've done a lot of writing and painting and gardening and swimming and connecting and healing and quietly listening… together we've been in the grips of reinventing and repurposing our lives in many ways.
Like so many Australian business owners, we lost two businesses during the lockdown years. It changed our lives dramatically and, for a while, we weren't quite sure what came next — especially now, at 60.
When you've spent decades building businesses, it's a strange feeling to suddenly find yourself on the outside looking in. But something unexpected happened.
As we watched our own businesses come to an end, we also watched thousands of others fighting to survive. Good people. Good businesses. People who had poured their lives into creating something meaningful.
I couldn't stop thinking about them… and what it might mean for the future of our country.
Back in 2022, I began a project I called The Great Aussie Comeback. I believed then (and I still do) in the idea, the intention and the energy behind it.
I built a website and brought together a community of Australian (and international) entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals who shared one simple belief…
AUSTRALIAN BUSINESSES MATTER!
The employees they hire matter and the power of a financially vibrant community matters.
The desire to help was there. The vision was there. But if I'm honest… the vehicle wasn't. I didn't know what could genuinely make a sustainable difference that would help Australian businesses reclaim their place on the leading edge of innovation and customer service.
I didn't yet know what practical help looked like. So instead of rushing into something, we waited. And I quietly marinated.
We listened and we learned. And we're still learning.
Then, somewhat unexpectedly after more than 30 years in our own businesses, we went back into other people's businesses. We accepted contracts. We took jobs. We worked alongside business owners and their teams again.
It was humbling. And it was incredibly enlightening. Because we weren't looking in from the outside anymore. We were living the post-covid world and cost of living pressures with them.
We saw how much had changed. Customer expectations. Staffing. Costs. Competition. Corporations. Compliance. Technology. The pressure seemed to be coming from every direction.
Every experience taught us something and every conversation added another piece to the puzzle I didn't know I was completing.
And all the while, that "Great Aussie Comeback" vision never left us. It quietly sat in the background, waiting for the right partners, the right technology and the right way to genuinely help.
Now, four years later, it finally feels like those pieces have come together. We've found partners who share our values and technology systems that can genuinely help Australian businesses in practical, meaningful ways.
We're about to begin a new chapter that feels deeply aligned with everything we've lived and learned over the past three decades. Not because we've found another business opportunity. But because we believe we've found a practical way to help Australian businesses navigate what's next.
Looking back now, I don't think the six years since we lost our businesses were a detour. I think they were an apprenticeship. It's been bloody rough at times, as every aspect of life and relationship has been challenged. These past six years have changed us. AND they deepened our understanding about life and purpose and unity. And they prepared us for what comes next.
For the first time in a long time… the future feels a little more exciting again. We're looking forward to sharing more with you over the coming weeks.
With love and gratitude, Jen (and Paul) xo
A Note From The Beginning
Back in 1994, I named my very first company At Your Instant Service.
I didn't realise then that I'd spend the next thirty-plus years trying to honour those four words. Looking back now, I think they were pointing me towards something long before I understood what it was.
Sometimes the seeds we plant early in life take decades to reveal what they were really growing.
No hype. No obligation. Just a practical conversation about your business and where A.I. could make a genuine difference.
